Winter is coming. Are you prepared?

As I sit here in my writing corner, looking out from my second story window, I am in awe.  I am in awe of the mighty tree that stands firm in my front yard, yielding to the strong gusts of wind that bend her branches and cause her leaves to disengage and float silently to the ground.  The seasons are changing.  But instead of fighting it, she's embracing it, knowing that fighting is futile.  Change will come whether she likes it or not.  Soon all her leaves will be gone and she will enter a long, dormant winter, her limbs weighed heavy with ice and snow.  Is it the end?  No.  Experience has taught her that after the snow always comes spring.  Renewal.  Rebirth.
And so it is with the seasons of our lives.  As one season ends, like when our children grow up, we may feel as if the best part of our lives are over.  We can spend our time mourning or looking ahead to what's next with eager anticipation.  I'm in a winter right now.  My kids are grown but I have my first grandchild on the way.  And a spring is coming for me.
Each season of our lives bring with it different nutritional needs.  In our winters, both Earthly winters and personal winters, we may need more support in different areas.  For instance in Ohio, we are often exposed to less sunlight in winter and some people experience S.A.D. (Seasonal Affective Disorder), a biochemical imbalance that affects mood.  To counteract that, some natural treatments include light therapy and increased Vitamin D.  If depression also occurs, other supplements may help that include SAMe, St John's Wort, B Vitamins, and fish oil.  Nutrition also plays a big part in how well you cope with S.A.D.  With proper support, you don't need to suffer through the winters in your life.
Fall is the perfect time to evaluation your nutritional and supplemental needs that will carry you through winter.  For the entire month of October, I'm offering free Zyto bioscan sessions ($120 value) to celebrate our grand opening.
For me, Earthly winter and my reproductive winter are coinciding.  (yay...)  I have also experienced S.A.D. in the past.  I'm aware that this could be a challenging time for me, personally.  That's why I've made it a priority to:
  • Get my bioscan to identify my body's nutritional needs for winter
  • Support my hormones and endocrine system nutritionally
  • Boost my immune system with supplements
  • Be sure I have my holistic medicine chest stocked
  • Diffuse essential oils that are uplifting and energizing
  • Rededicate myself to my yoga/meditation practice daily
  • Get enough rest
Supporting your body, mind, and spirit will carry you through the winters of your life and prepare you for your spring.

If you would like to schedule your free bioscan, give me a call!  937-825-7470.
If you would like an intake appointment that includes your free bioscan, where we can discuss your needs and the many ways I can assist, it's only $75 for a private 1.5 hour consultation.  Give me a call!

Winter is the perfect time to be introspective, focusing on what you need to be a better you.  By the time the first tulips appear, you could be a whole new person!

What's Wrong with Getting a Flu Shot?

Fall is upon us and the marketing has begun..."Get your flu shot!".  My husband's company actually offered free flu shots at his work the other day.  They're peddling them via signs at the pharmacy and commercials on television.  Everyone wants to avoid the flu so it makes sense to get a flu vaccine.  Or does it?

Dr. Tenpenny recently published a blog post entitled "The Truth About the Flu Shot", in which she talks about the ingredients:

  • Egg proteins: including avian contaminant viruses
  • Gelatin: can cause allergic reactions and anaphylaxis are usually associated with sensitivity to egg or gelatin
  • Polysorbate 80 (Tween80™): can cause severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis.  Also associated with infertility in female mice.
  • Formaldehyde: known carcinogen
  • Triton X100: a strong detergent
  • Sucrose: table sugar
  • Resin: known to cause allergic reactions
  • Gentamycin: an antibiotic
  • Thimerosal: mercury is still in multidose flu shot vials
She also discussed effectiveness of the flu shot: In a review of 48 reports including more than 66,000 adults, “Vaccination of healthy adults only reduced risk of influenza by 6% and reduced the number of missed work days by less than one day (0.16) days. It did not change the number of people needing to go to hospital or take time off work.”

So if you don't want the flu and you opt against getting a flu shot, what are your alternatives for staying healthy?
